Obsidian Entertainment is a hive of busy developer bees these days. The studio released South Park: The Stick of Truth in early March, they’re prepping Pillars of Eternity for a fall launch, and as they revealed at GDC this week, they have another all-new project in the works. It’s a free-to-play multiplayer tank game called Armored Warfare.
Confession: when World of Tanks was first announced, I thought it was an Onion article. Wargaming laughed all the way to the bank, becoming the biggest F2P studio in the business not named Riot Games. That success has bred competition, with War Thunder now in open beta and now Armored Warfare on the way. Here’s the rundown:
In Armored Warfare, you will find yourself behind the treads of the most modern mechanized destructive machines on the planet. From general purpose combat vehicles, to main battle tanks, and even long-range high-powered artillery, it will be up to you to defeat your enemies and control the battlefield.
Obsidian is making the tank game for Russian online communications services company My.com. My.com previously only published mobile games, but it has plans to enter the PC market soon with Armored Warfare, MMORPG Skyforge, and multiplayer racing game World of Speed.
No release date just yet, but Armored Warfare beta registration is now open.
